This project is deployed in the context of the political sphere in the Balkans, which is often characterised as being corrupt. Politicians often hold the key to aspects of social, political and civil life which are essential for the Christian communities and this situation of politics has negatively affected every aspect of people’s lives and their world view when considering basic ethical issues such as poverty and justice. In this context the Bible Societies of the Balkans have recognised the need to engage with the political sphere in order to express the Biblical message for this context. The project’s aim is firstly to establish links with politicians and create a platform in which politicians can be invited to discuss relevant ethical issues from a Biblical perspective. This will happen on both a national and regional level. This will be followed by a series of publications (e.g. similar to the Poverty and Justice Bible, Freedom Bible published by BFBS) which will encourage the Christian community to explore the political and social implications of God’s word in more depth.
The target audience is primarily the Christian politicians from the local, regional and national governments as well as parliaments of the Balkan countries. In addition, the emphasis will be on identifying and developing relationships with secular and non-Christian politicians. This will lead to partnerships among Christian communities and their locally and nationally elected politicians.
